Physiotherapy is a health profession that helps individuals achieve and maintain optimal physical function. Physiotherapists are highly trained and skilled health care professionals who use their knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics to assess, diagnose, and treat a variety of conditions that affect the body’s ability to move and function. While physiotherapy can be provided over the phone, it is difficult to assess and treat patients without being able to see them in person. In order to provide quality care, physiotherapists need to be able to see their patients so that they can properly assess the situation and develop an individualized treatment plan. While some assessment and treatment can be done over the phone, it is not an ideal situation for either the patient or the physiotherapist.
Physiotherapy is a hands-on profession, and much of our assessment relies on visual observation. In order to provide an accurate assessment, we need to be able to see the client and their movement. This is why many physiotherapists are reluctant to provide service over the phone. Without video chat, it is simply not possible to provide quality care. That said, there are certain types of Physiotherapy that can be done over the phone. For instance, if a client is struggling with pain management, we can provide education and guidance on pain relief techniques. We can also provide advice on stretches and exercises that can be done at home. However, Physiotherapy is best provided in person, where we can provide hands-on care and ensure that the client is progressing safely and effectively.
